Join us for the opening of “Art Can Feed”. The show where selected artists have created installations using only food cans as a medium. It’s an impressive and creative feat and one that benefits the great folks and amazing pantry at the St. Anthony’s Foundation. Come see the work and help support a great cause.

We’re excited about our Art Can Feed call for entries deadline, which is Friday, October 21. 5:30pm. In the artist salon, we were talking about ideas and thought we’d share some in the hopes it inspires you (and you inspire us!).
Repetition
This simple “To Do” type-based graphic was created from two colors of 3×3 post-it notes by the collective “Illegal Art.”
Packaging
Guilty as charged—we absolutely love well-designed labels. So we’re intrigued by redesigning, embroidering or knitting a series labels. While the can labels can’t be permanently altered, that doesn’t mean they can’t be wrapped or sleeved. Local artist Streetcolor is a yarn bomber who has covered bike racks, street poles and even a BART seat with knitted creations.
Using Magnets
There are some pretty powerful magnets, which opens a range of possibility for assembly and placement—hanging from the ceiling or attached to the wall.
Sculpture
Building with cans is intriguing, whether it’s beautiful in form or function. We’re blown away by these ceramic cans and the resulting sculpture by artist Jay Patrick Dion.
Have fun, we can’t wait to see your submissions. Read about the entry requirements here.

5-9:00pm
Join us for the celebration and grand reveal of an artist’s one-month residency in the Ramon’s Tailor space. Radka Pulliam has spent all of September documenting and revealing beauty in the ordinary. Here’s what we saw in the Ramon’s Tailor window last night. If you haven’t stopped by to check out what our artist-in-residence Radka Pulliam is up to, you certainly should. The stitched drawings that were on display last night were quite lovely. Pop by the window all month long and sneak a peek of the work (and possibly the artist at work).

We were so excited to help our newest artist in residence move in today. Her name is Radka Pulliam and she’ll be working at Ramon’s Tailor during the month of September. Expect to see delightful things happening through our window and mark your calendar for a closing reception on Saturday, October 1.
We were first introduced to Radka’s work at the MFA show at CCA (California College of the Arts) in May. Her graduate show comprised a series of about 50 framed abstract mappings, stitched onto vellum. They were beautifully composed and yet evoked a certain textural rawness. When we read the descriptions we found out that these were mappings of San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. Radka had spent months walking the neighborhood and documenting everything from mailboxes to strong smells. Turns out that Radka, who was born in the Czech Republic, also lives in the neighborhood. We finally met her a few months later and knew she’d be a perfect artist for Ramon’s Tailor.
Radka Pulliam imbues drawings, environments, photos and embroidery with social stratifications. Her practice occurs in the space between art and everyday life, and between the private and the public.
The inaugural exhibit of Ramon’s Tailor honored our namesake who occupied this fine space for 40 years (wow!). Members of the Mrs. Robinson Society thoughtfully assembled a selection of garments that celebrated the man who had finely tailored and improved the wardrobes of so many people over the years. We’re happy to share photos of the installation along with the stories of each garment that elude to Ramon’s colorful clientele. Enjoy!

Our Love Letter Writing Salon hosted by the Mrs. Robinson Society was rich with both conversation and contemplation; providing laughter and admiration for various objects of affection. We were especially impressed by the six word love letters that many in the group had written as part of the pre-salon assignment.
After enjoying some fun exercises, like attempting to write a letter of only questions, we all took to the typewriters and continued to compose affectations to the people or objects that had captured our hearts — we’re talking about you Glenn Gould.
